When considering carpet for your home, you'll need to evaluate and select a style that fits your needs and preferences. We've summarized the most important styles on this page.

Once you become aware of the different styles, you'll be able to
determine what styles your friends have in their homes. You'll see
a variety of styles in the Kansas City area.

Texture: The most versatile cut-pile carpet

Advantages
  • Alternating twists of yarn give the carpet a track-less feature which helps to minimize foot prints and vacuum marks
  • Can provide formal or informal beauty to any room
  • Allows for decorating ease because of its versatility to be used throughout the entire house
  • Wide variety of thicknesses and colors
  • Has wide appeal making it a great choice when carpeting a home you are trying to sell

Disadvantages

  • Designed to be track-less -- but do not be fooled, track-less does not mean track proof
  • Comes primarily in solid colors which will show stains easier than a multi-colored carpet
  • Level finish means traffic will begin to cause wear over time as the yarns untwist

Pattern or Cut and Loop: Fashion with performance

Advantages

  • Low pile carpet constructed with a combination of cut and looped yarn creating a wide array of patterns
  • Patterned carpets create a feel of high fashion and styling regardless of whether the room is casual or formal in its decor
  • The low pile height and dense construction increases the performance of the carpet by reducing signs of wear

Disadvantages

  • Low pile height and dense construction increases the visibility of seams

Breathe easier with carpet

Despite common misconceptions, carpet may have no effect on your allergies. In fact, studies show carpeted rooms actually have lower levels of dust-borne allergens than rooms with hard surface floors.

Carpet saves energy

Warm up rooms and reduce energy bills with the natural insulation and comfort of carpet. Research shows that carpet doesn’t just feel warmer, it also insulates up to 17 times better than other flooring.

Advantages

  • Tightly twisted yarn increases the durability and performance
  • Informal or casual look minimizes foot prints and vacuum marks and helps hide seams
  • Comes in colors that are solid, slightly flecked, or densely flecked to fit any home's décor and lifestyle

Disadvantages

  • Tufts of yarn are not closely packed together causing them to lay over in traffic areas when not vacuumed regularly

Cable: Luxurious underfoot comfort in selective areas

Advantages

  • Characterized by a thicker bulkier yarn with a longer pilecable_carpet height
  • Comes in colors that are solid, slightly flecked, or densely flecked to fit any home's décor and lifestyle
  • Thick heavy feel and causal texture minimizes the visual appearance of seams

Disadvantages

  • Luxurious feel for rooms but may untwist, matte, or crush when used in an area of your home that has high foot traffic

Loop: Wear ability with low maintenance

Advantages

  • Often referred to as a "Berber carpet," this style is characterized by all of the yarns being looped
  • The low pile and looped construction increases this carpet style's ability to resist wear making it suited for casual rooms with lots of traffic and activity
  • Does not require constant vacuuming for upkeep making this an easy-to-maintain product
  • Hides vacuum marks and foot traffic well

Disadvantages
